Patrick B Ray Press Kit
BIOGRAPHY
Patrick B Ray writes and performs country and folk songs in the tradition of the Texas troubadours he grew up listening to. Think Townes Van Zandt by way of West Texas oil country, with Tejano and Western Swing in the mix. He grew up in Odessa, started playing in bands across Texas and California fifteen years ago. He spent years working the circuit solo, often playing 80-plus shows a year from Gulf Coast honky tonks to Montana saloons to listening rooms in the Carolinas, before turning his attention to the studio.
His debut, Texas Man (2021), leaned into autobiographical storytelling with honky tonk and western swing, with Tejano rhythms on "Loco" and a western swing feel on "Rain," after which he began releasing a steady stream of singles. His October 2025 single "Tennessee Devil" was a song he borrowed from buddies Feeding Leroy and played live for years before recording it with his Houston band in an old furniture store turned warehouse. His upcoming Guy Clark cover "Magnolia Wind" (April 10, 2026) took over a year of blending, mixing, and mastering: acoustic guitar, pedal steel, electric guitar, fiddle, and five-part harmonies. Clark was his hero, and he wanted a version Guy might have complimented.
The Church Session is the forthcoming full-length. Last fall, Patrick was at a social dance in a 150-year-old church in rural New England when he wandered into the empty sanctuary, started snapping his fingers to map the acoustics, and decided it sounded like being inside an old handmade instrument. He came back a month later with two mics, his Martin, and a dozen songs. There are no overdubs and no effects beyond EQ and levels; all the reverb is from the room itself. You can hear the building creak and his breath between phrases because he left it all in on purpose.
